Laboratory instrumentation solutions for the pharma/biotech sector - Chemical & Pharmaceuticals
There are many useful NMR applications in biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. 1H and multinuclear NMR Spectroscopy (e.g., 13C, 19F, 31P) are essential tools for structural elucidation and drug discovery. Additionally, they can be used for structural confirmation of both known synthetic drugs and natural products with pharmaceutical effects. See for example, the series of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Applications Overview
In addition to qualitative analysis, the quantitative nature of NMR can address a number of inquiries including:
- impurity profiles;
- composition (e.g., composite β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor antibiotics);
- metabolic products in bodily fluids;
- reaction monitoring/kinetic profiling etc..
With a growing number of flow applications developing for benchtop NMR, these analyses can also be done on dynamic samples in dedicated benchtop reactors or larger production facilities.
