Arsenia Georgopoulos: A Rising Entrepreneur
Arsenia Georgopoulos first began her journey at EpiFinder this May as a summer business intern. Traveling all the way from Youngstown, Ohio, Arsenia is our first out-of-state team member and intern.
Now that her summer break is coming to a close, she plans to head back to Ohio. There, she’ll begin her junior year at The College of Wooster, majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I was able to sit down with her to talk about her personal experience with EpiFinder and her future plans.
Why EpiFinder?
As an out-of-state student, Arsenia felt intrigued by the location of EpiFinder. Scottsdale was an entirely new place for her to encounter new experiences and create lasting connections.
Arsenia liked how EpiFinder would offer the opportunity to gain exposure to a field that she was not originally familiar with. Specifically, she was interested in learning about the business aspect of healthcare, such as how to start a business, deal with the economics of a company, and become a successful entrepreneur. She also liked the welcoming atmosphere of EpiFinder and its team.
Arsenia’s Experience at EpiFinder
Arsenia worked on a multitude of projects, including the company’s economic model, grant proposals, and funding. She met with a advisors and companies and attended various workshops and conventions. Working in the business team, she learned to navigate the market and healthcare system, develop critical thinking and analytical skills, and apply concepts and problems to the world around her.
Besides improving her experience in the field, she also gained insight and intuition during her time at EpiFinder. Her experience with the company gave her the chance to think in multiple directions and make anything and everything count.
Arsenia also learned how important it is to not get caught up in the monetary side of the healthcare industry. People must maintain focus on the humanity and compassion within the field.
Future Plans
As she approaches her junior year, Arsenia will begin an independent study at her school. She’ll be required to work on a project of her choice. She hopes to use her passion for diagnosis and disease detection in her pursued project.
In the next 5 to 10 years, Arsenia hopes to build her own company from the ground up. She plans to integrate her passion for biotechnology and nanotechnology into her company’s mission and goals. Like EpiFinder, she hopes to potentially develop a product or tool that can help change individuals’ lives for the better.
Views on the Healthcare/Medical Industry
Arsenia views artificial intelligence as the future for the healthcare and medical industry. She envisions a shift from burning resources to a focus on nanotechnology.
In her perspective, superintelligence is not far away. She believes we’ll soon see changes such as machines telling us how to learn or robots performing surgical operations.
Advice to Others
Arsenia’s message to aspiring entrepreneurs is to not be afraid. When you have an idea, you have the potential to add value to others’ lives and change a community for the better.
She believes that entrepreneurship isn’t just about fearlessness, but resilience. This means being able to stand your ground and push past the obstacles that get in your way.
Arsenia also wants to stress that hard work, as well as smart work, matters. Doing your research, being consistent, taking breaks when needed, and exercising self-control are all essential when a part of a team or workplace.
