An article from Health in Action features mild® Provider, Dr. Kiran Patel and reviews key data from the Mobility Matters Landmark Survey as well as the Know Your Back Story health awareness campaign.
Key points:
- Count yourself lucky if you’ve never groaned about your back. It is estimated that roughly a quarter of us- more than 72.3 million U.S. adults- are currently experiencing chronic low back pain, according to a recent Harris Poll.
- Dr. Patel states, “Lower back pain is the No. 1 reason patients see a physician or a healthcare provider around the country and the No. 1 cause of disability. There’s a huge element of both physician and emotional suffering that comes along with it.”
- Lumbar spinal stenosis is a lower back pain caused by an enlarged ligament. Dr. Patel states, “When patients say they have pain in their back or legs the longer they stand or walk, and their ability to stand or walk is getting less and less, that clues me in that they may have spinal stenosis from an enlarged ligament.”
