About us
Our culture revolves around the ethos that no disease should go untreated, and our people are driven to discover, develop, and commercialize medicines that give patients, their families, and their caregivers hope where there was little or none. We fuel our R&D engine by looking for opportunities that align with our strengths and competencies. And we relentlessly pursue exciting, early-stage science that has the potential tochange the course of disease.
Voted one of America’s Best Midsize Employer by Forbes in 2019, our employees feel connected to their work at BioMarin because they believe in our purpose: the patient. The passion and dedication that our employees bring to work each day is a testament to the inspiration our patients provide, and the knowledge of the impact we canmake in their lives.
History
When BioMarin first opened its doors back in 1997, treatment of rare disease was as rare as the conditions themselves. Determined to make a difference, we went on to develop and introduce six first or best-in-class therapies for genetic disorders with limited-to-no treatment options.
Learn more about our history and how we got our start with the short film “Finding Tomorrows.”
You can also read more about our legacy with A Rare Breed.
A Rare Breed recounts the first 20 years of BioMarin’s history, the struggles we faced in developing drugs for little known conditions, and how we grew into a global enterprise. It follows the researchers, patients, and executives who played a role in advancing novel ideas and how they overcame scientific, regulatory, and financial challenges to bring first-in-class and best-in-class therapies to children who needed them.
A Rare Breed is now available on Amazon with all proceeds going to patient advocacy groups focused on rare disease.
