Fujifilm Sonosite, Inc.
Sonosite’s first mission was to create an ultrasound machine that could be carried into battle and used to make time-critical medical decisions under the most grueling conditions imaginable. What began more than 20 years ago as a challenge to develop portable ultrasound for the U.S. military on the battlefield has evolved into an exceptionally focused mission to serve the courageous, visionary, and passionate healthcare workers on the front lines of modern medicine across the globe. As the originators and pioneers of point-of-care ultrasound, our purpose is as clear as one of our images: To enable clinicians and healthcare systems to continuously improve patient outcomes at the point of care by advancing imaging solutions.

About us
Sonosite’s first mission was to create an ultrasound machine that could be carried into battle and used to make time-critical medical decisions under the most grueling conditions imaginable. The concept was simple: get treatment to a trauma victim within the first 60 minutes of being injured by giving a frontline clinician an ultrasound machine that could easily be brought to the patient’s side. It was a concept that had been put into practice for years but with equipment that was anything but easy-to-move. Enter the Sonosite 180. Designed in partnership with point-of-care clinicians, weighing less than 10 lbs and built for the battlefield, the 180 was born for the bedside.
For the first time, point-of-care clinicians had a tool built for them that made bringing ultrasound to any patient, anywhere, at any time a possibility. From the beginning Sonosite has been dedicated to empowering clinicians to continue innovating the practice of medicine for the sake of providing better patient care. With more than 140,000 Sonosite machines installed worldwide, we continue to partner with clinicians to bring the benefits of ultrasound to the point-of-care.
Why Sonosite
Proactively addressing today’s global health issues.
The moment we find ourselves in is unlike any other. The medical challenges we face require nothing less than our very best, our most innovative and imaginative solutions. Fujifilm Sonosite POCUS initiatives are at the front lines of today’s most pressing medical issues.
- As COVID-19 continues to overwhelm our healthcare systems, Sonosite solutions are a trusted tool in performing accurate lung and cardiac imaging in patients.
- Amidst the devastating opioid crisis, our leadership in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks is offering pain management alternatives.
- For those who don’t have access to medical imaging due to social conditions, remote locations, natural disasters, or lack of funding, our Global Health Programs are helping clinicians bring POCUS to patients and institutions around the world.
Advancing imaging solutions for tomorrow.
The next generation of frontline clinicians and healthcare providers will be leading the way as early adopters of our newest technologies. We’re deeply committed to continuously learning alongside clinicians to develop new techniques and improve patient care.
