Puragen Activated Carbons applications
Many inorganic chemical raw materials are mined and require removal of various organic contaminants. Soda ash requires removal of humic acids to reduce foaming. Salts like magnesium chloride also need humic acids removed. Hydrochloric acid is often a by-product from chemical reactions and treatment is needed to remove chlorinated organics.
Many organic chemicals are used in applications that require they conform to stringent purity standards. Color bodies need to be removed from common amino acids such as methionine, lysine, tryptophan, aspartic and phenylalanine. Color bodies also need to be removed from various organic acids including fumaric acid, which is used as a plasticizer.
We offer premium-grade OxPure™ that is an excellent option for this application. Puragen Activated Carbons high purity pharmaceutical products are used as ingredients in a wide range of personal care products including soaps and toothpaste. The products also are used in pharmaceutical manufacturing to purify raw materials or end products such as injection or imaging solutions and vitamins.
The oil and gas industry has many applications that rely on the adsorptive capabilities of activated carbon. Amine scrubbers use GAC to remove carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from gas streams. Glycol scrubbers are also used to remove moisture from gas streams. Surfactants, degradation products, and organic acids collect in these amine or glycol solutions and can cause foaming and corrosion that can lower the efficiency of these systems.
