There is a global shortage of 100 million units of donor blood each year. In the US and in emerging markets donor blood is costly to process. Around the world when a surgeon reaches for it during surgery, it is often not there. The world needs better solutions to increase blood access.
In the field, military doctors and medics may have to perform surgery in places with limited infrastructure that can’t accommodate donor blood. These physicians require simple, cutting-edge, portable medical devices that will help them treat wounded soldiers faster.
