Specific’s novel and patented small molecule sensor (SMS) array: Responds to the metabolic byproducts produced by microorganisms to detect growth and assess antibiotic efficacy. Nanoporous sensors sensitively detects low (10 parts per billion) concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by microorganisms as they grow. Color-active chemical indicators are embedded in a proprietary nanoporous matrix to enhance surface area and therefore sensitivity with the emission of volatiles prompting a change in sensor color imaged every 10 minutes by a simple scan.

Specific Reveal® Rapid AST system delivers phenotypic AST results in an average of 5 hours, directly from positive blood culture or isolates. Reveal is affordable, high throughput, and provides accurate minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) results with wide antimicrobial coverage.
