High Quality Manufacturing
Surgical Innovations instruments are designed and manufactured in the UK …
Cost Savings
Saving money for healthcare providers is a key benefit of the Surgical Innovations range.
Environmental Benefits
Increasingly large volumes of clinical waste are being incinerated…
Our Mission
Inspired by surgeons for the benefit of patients.
We aim to provide by development, partnership or acquisition a broad portfolio of cost-effective, procedure-specific surgical instruments and implantable devices that offer reliable solutions to genuine clinical needs in the operating theatre environment.
Manufacturing and design are at the core of our company ethos, and we seek to build products that are recognised as much for their innovation as by their quality.
Our business is proud to exemplify the highest standards of integrity and behaviour in everything we do. We place great value upon our mutually respectful relationships with employees, shareholders, customers and suppliers. We fully recognise our natural environment and are mindful at all times of our impact on it.
High Quality Manufacturing
Manufacturing and design are at the core of our company ethos, and we seek to build products that are recognised as much for their innovation as by their quality.
Established in 1992, our many years of expertise in the field of laparoscopic surgery position us at the forefront of the latest developments in technology. Over the last two decades we have designed and manufactured a range of pioneering devices. The YelloPort™ access system led the adoption of Laparoscopic surgery in the UK, and our SmartFlex™ technology is used in both medical devices and also extends to use in industrial application.
Quality and Regulatory Certification
All of our brands are manufactured, assembled or built in-house. Our facilities include an extensive machine shop, two clean rooms, injection moulding and warehousing. We are constantly evolving to improve competitiveness, productivity and performance through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills.
Product Design
Our product design team are an important part of our manufacturing output and between them they have over 50 years of service, our Head of Design carries over 17 of those years. They are incredibly experienced in medical device design and have great synchronicity with the key manufacturing departments, including Quality Assurance.
Environmental Benefits
Increasingly large volumes of clinical waste are being incinerated by hospitals each year, a large percentage of this waste is from plastic materials. Hospitals are constantly under pressure to achieve cost savings and make improvements.
Surgical Innovations have been leading the way in the reduction of plastic disposal since 1992.
Reduce single use plastics
The innovative design of Surgical Innovations Resposable™ product ranges provide a high quality reusable instrument with the clinical benefits of a small disposable element. Providing the solution for Hospitals looking to reduce costs and waste whilst maintaining reliability and quality.
Surgical Innovations Resposable™ products reduce waste by 70% * compared to expensive, fully disposable alternatives.
Fraction of waste
Disposing of a small item dramatically reduces the volume of waste and cost of disposal for the Hospital. The recurring cost of the small disposable element is also much less than a fully disposable device, providing two cost saving benefits.
Surgical Innovations are partnered with the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare and proudly support their efforts in the UK (and globally) to reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste in surgery.
The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare is an independent registered charity. Established in 2008, it works to help the NHS fulfil its commitment to reach net zero by 2045. “Delivering a ‘Net Zero’ national health service.” It is now the one of the foremost institutions in the world working on sustainable healthcare in research and practice.
In celebration of UK hospitals taking steps to reduce plastic waste by moving to Resposable™ devices, Elemental Healthcare (a subsidiary of Surgical Innovations) have pledged to plant trees in the ‘NHS Forest’. This means that by making the decision to move to this sustainable healthcare solution the hospital will not only experience significant reductions in plastic waste, but the planting of trees in the NHS forest also provides health, social and environmental benefits.

Examples of Work
Following a feasibility study, Surgical Innovations applied for and received funding approval, for over £210,000. The funding was used to develop a bespoke solution for a device delivery system to be used in the on-wing inspection of jet engines. This would see Surgical Innovation’s patented articulating segment technology transferred from medical devices to jet engine inspection and maintenance.
Surgical Innovations’s SmartFlex product has been specially adapted to industrial applications. The product is designed to deliver tools, devices, sensors and probes precisely and repeatedly to a given target zone in a variety of applications. SmartFlex can provide access into inaccessible or hazardous spaces and minimises the need to disassemble complicated equipment and systems.
