Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune, slowly progressing neurological condition leading to skeletal muscle weakness (mostly muscles of the eyes and face). It is caused by patient‘s autoantibodies that block or destroy nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChR) at the neuromuscular junctions. AChR-autoantibody detection is therefore the most specific marker in the diagnosis of MG.
