A positive signal in the test indicates the presence ofC.difficilein the stool sample. Subsequent analysis of the sample with a test for detectingC.difficiletoxins (such as our 2A-Bdiff test) confirms whether the strain is toxigenic and, therefore, pathogenic and disease-causing. Some of the leading healthcare societies propose the use of a two-step protocol for identifying toxigenicC.difficileinvolving an initial screening of the sample with a GDH test and, if the result is positive, use of a second test to detect toxins fromC.difficileas not all strains of this microorganism produce them.
