Splashes may cause severe eye irritation and possible permanent eye damage. Skin Contact: Causes irritation, rash and blister formation. Can be absorbed through the skin with toxic effects. Ingestion: Causes burning in mouth and esophagus. Severe corrosive gastroenteritis evidenced by vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. In severe cases, ingestion may be fatal. Inhalation: Causes severe irritation and burns to the respiratory tract. May cause secondary chemical pneumonia, which can possibly lead to death. Chronic Exposure/Target Organs: Prolonged or repeated exposure may possibly cause bronchial irritation. Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions: Persons with pre-existing skin disorders or eye problems or impaired respiratory function may be more susceptible to the effects of this substance. First Aid Measures Eyes: Flush with copious amounts of water for 30 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower lids. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION if irritation persists. Skin: Wash skin with copious amounts of water and soap for 30 minutes while removing any contaminated clothing and shoes. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION if irritation persists and blistering occurs. Physician should treat symptomatically and supportively Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. Inhalation: Remove from exposure to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration with the aid of a pocket mask equipped with a one-way valve or other proper respiratory medical device. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. Notes to physician; treat symptomatically and supportively. Deepwater Chemicals, Inc. Subsidiary of Tomen America, Inc. 3 4. Fire Fighting Measures Flash Point: N/A Method: N/A LEL % : No data Auto-ignition: N/A UEL % : No data FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS : Noncombustible under ordinary conditions. Fire may produce poisonous or irritating iodine and chlorine fumes and the release of hydrogen. EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use dry chemical, CO2 or water spray. FIRE FIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS: Small Fires: Use dry chemical, CO2 or water spray. Large Fires: Use water spray, fog or regular foam. Move containers from area if you can without risk. Dike fire control water for later disposal. Do not scatter material. Wear full protective clothing and NIOSH approved SCBA apparatus with a full face respirator. 5. Accidental Release Measures Evacuation: See the Table of Initial Isolation and Protective Action Distances from the Emergency Response Guidebook # 154 Containment: Eliminate all ignition sources. Do not touch damaged containers or spilled material unless wearing appropriate protective clothing. Stop leak if you can do without risk. Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas. Adsorb or cover with dry earth, sand or other non-combustible material and transfer to containers. Reporting: In the event of a Hazardous Materials Incident during transportation, the regulations in 49CFR 171.15 and 171.16 are to be followed. Under 40CFR 302.6 (CERCLA), any release of a substance in a quantity equal to or greater than its (RQ) threshold to soil, water or air, as soon as that person has knowledge of the release, the US Coast Guard National Response Center at 800-424-8801 must be contacted. 6. Handling and Storage Storage Conditions: Store in UN-rated containers in a cool, preferably below 30o C, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Keep containers tightly closed. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues. This product should be handled only by, or under the close supervision of those properly qualified in the handling and use of potentially hazardous chemicals. Deepwater Chemicals, Inc.
