Before we invented our single-use solution, the “wash and reuse” bedpan system was all there was. It is still sometimes used today, and remains undignified for patients, unpleasant for carers, and can contribute to the spread of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs).

Our vision was for an alternative way of working – a system that would really improve lives. The system incorporates high quality paper pulp single-use containers (such as bedpans, urinals and bowls) and disposal units. The system we invented macerates the waste and the bedpan together, and disposes of them quickly, efficiently and hygienically.

Doing things better

Today, the Vernacare system has expanded, with a bigger product range and smaller machines that are now more effective than ever. However, it is still based on the same principle: after one use, the container, waste and potential pathogens are eliminated.

At Vernacare, we are innovators. Where we lead, others follow. Our system is now better for the environment and even more efficient than it was 50 years ago, and our global network is bigger than ever. Everything we do is driven by our vision to support better healthcare, assist the fight against infection and continue innovating far into the future.

You can however rely on other things to remain the same. Because what we do isn’t just about waste disposal and hygiene. It’s about helping patients lead longer, more dignified lives.
