Jo-Ann fabric and craft stores gives more than $1.1 million in 2009
Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores donated more than $1.1 million in cash and products to non-profit organizations in 2009. In addition, Jo-Ann customers and Team Members once again displayed their generosity, donating through personal contributions and company-sponsored fundraisers, bringing total 2009 giving to more than $1.2 million. 'We are pleased to be able to make a difference in our communities at a time when charitable organizations are in such critical need,' notes Darrell Webb, chief executive officer. 'Our support last year was a 67% increase compared with 2008.' Examples of 2009 giving include:
- Health and Human Services – The American Heart Association (AHA) continues to be one of the most significant recipients of Jo-Ann giving. In 2009, the company and its customers provided more than $210,000 to the AHA and various Start! Heart Walk campaigns.
- Education – Supporting education will always be a focus for Jo-Ann, as $25,000 went to the Kids In Need Foundation's Teacher Grant program. Jo-Ann also rewarded hundreds of teachers through its annual Teacher Appreciation Days and product donations for the Kids In Need Resource Centers throughout the country.
Jo-Ann aided other philanthropic programs through monetary and merchandise donations to organizations such as Ronald McDonald House Charities and Goodwill Industries International, Inc.
