Rithem Life Sciences Announces Medical Advisory Board

Rithem Life Sciences, a Wilmington, Delaware-based medical device company and developer of safe and efficacious life-saving portable products, has announced the formation of its Medical Advisory Board.

The Medical Advisory Board will collaborate with Rithem`s leadership team as the company continues advancing the development of its portable, hands-only CPR aid – ResQR and the automated external defibrillator – JoltzAED. The ResQR is ergonomically designed with advanced features such as a placement indicator as well as metronome and LED light guidance to ensure proper positioning of the hands during chest compressions. This allows for the equal spreading of force across the wider surface area of the sternum to reduce the risk of fractures. It is also equipped with a compression pacing system and built-in modesty and personal protection equipment to avoid unnecessarily exposing the recipient`s chest while also reducing the risk of potential exposure to and transmission of viruses such as COVID-19.

The Medical Advisory Board is comprised of the following members:

Yehuda Roseman serves as a director and has over 25 years in international business. After a personal incident involving the tragic and sudden loss of his friend’s young son, he was inspired to form Rithem Life Sciences and develop affordable, life-saving, portable products designed to assist anyone in responding to a sudden cardiac arrest event.

Carl Schmigelski, M.D., is a board-certified anesthesiologist and an active member of the Department of Anesthesiology at Winthrop University Hospital and Nassau Anesthesia Associates in Mineola, NY. In 2011, he was appointed director of Non-Operating Room Anesthesia at Winthrop University Hospital and serves as director of Anesthesia for the Winthrop Pediatric Associates, Pediatric Hematology Oncology. In additional to his clinical work, Dr. Schmigelski is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at NYU Long Island School of Medicine.

Paul D. Natterson, M.D., F.A.C.C., is a partner at Pacific Heart Institute (PHI) in Santa Monica, CA where he has served as president and medical director. He began his career as a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist at PNI before transitioning to consultative cardiology in 2010. Since then, he has served in several leadership roles including Chief of Staff and Chief Medical Officer of Providence Saint John`s Health Center in Santa Monica. After serving two terms on the hospital`s Board of Directors, Dr. Natterson served as a special advisor to the Board and Chair of the Board`s Nominating Committee. Dr. Natterson has also served on the Providence Saint John`s Health Center Foundation Board`s Executive Committee and as the Co-Chair of the Foundation`s Board Affairs Committee. He was also a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Saint John`s Physician Partners Medical Foundation and Chair of its Specialty Committee. Dr. Natterson now serves as Board President of GoodRx Helps.

Todd Zalut, M.D., trained in emergency medicine in Chicago where he was later appointed project medical director for the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) System of Northwest Chicago. Dr. Zalut first emigrated to Israel in 1990 and was the first residency-trained specialist in emergency medicine in the State of Israel. He returned to Chicago in 1991 to become the co-director of the Emergency Department at Michael Reese Hospital, but eventually returned to Jerusalem in 1993 and served as the assistant director of Terem Emergency Medical Clinics, as a staff physician in the Emergency Department at Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot, and was enlisted in the Israeli Air Force`s elite helicopter rescue unit. In 2002, Dr. Zalut was appointed assistant director of the Emergency Department of Shaare Zedek. Since 2003, Dr. Zalut has been the director of the Emergency Department where he has led the "fastest and most significant growth in the country over the last 15 years." In addition to his work at the hospital, Dr. Zalut also served as medical director of Medassis, a company dedicated to repatriating patients who fall ill overseas and need to be safely transported home.

Mark Merlin, M.D., is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Vice-Chairman of Emergency Medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center/RWJBarnabas Health. He has over 35 years of experience in EMS as a volunteer first-aid responder, paramedic and physician. Dr. Merlin is currently the Founder, CEO and Board Chairman of MD1, which is a 50-member nonprofit dedicated to advancing prehospital care. Dr. Merlin has been involved overseeing prehospital physician response since 2002. For MD1, he manages teams participating in event medicine, tactical response, flight medicine (both rotary and fixed wing) and ground field response. Dr. Merlin has created numerous revenue streams and developed relationships between the business and EMS community to develop support for numerous programs. He has developed an EMS grant and community support and public awareness via social media and community engagement.
