The SIRSU project for the sterilization of hospital waste in Beira
Source: Newster System S.r.l.
The SIRSU project aims to sterilize through the Newster machine the approximately 550 kg of waste produced daily by the hospital.
Normally an incinerator should be 150 m high, a height that allows dust to spread far and not cause damage to people or the surrounding area.
In Beira, the incinerator is 10 mt high, and is often in failure, the air filters can be considered non-existent.
The SIRSU project aims to sterilize through the Newster machine the approximately 550 kg of waste produced daily by the hospital and other peripheral health facilities (of which 15% is estimated to be infectious), aiming to improve air quality, the health of local residents and the natural conditions of the surrounding landscape.
Equally important will be the training of hospital staff in the proper separation of infectious waste from non-infectious waste, through collaboration with CAM (Consortium of Associations with Mozambique).
