With the update 2.0 of the virtual reality therapy system CUREO® of the med-tech company CUREosity from Düsseldorf, therapy is optimized with intuitive, digital and efficient tools. Based on user analysis and evaluation of feedback from clinics, therapists and patients, we have further developed our system to relieve therapists. The update has been officially available since January 31.

Thanks to the ability to create training plans, therapy implementation and planning is automated. An improved user interface allows the setting of all important functions with just a few clicks. In 6 different tests the basic abilities of the patients can be tested. The results are conveniently exportable and simplify the otherwise time-consuming evaluation of classic pen-and-paper tests. Additional languages, fascinating enriched environments and the extension of hand tracking to additional modules are also among the new features of the update.
More efficiency thanks to automated training schedule Time is the most important resource in clinical rehabilitation. Often therapists are overworked even though patients` therapy needs are insufficiently met. With the new feature of the training plan, we provide a tool that represents a significant relief for therapists. A sequence of exercises can be compiled from all therapy programs, which the patient is to perform one after the other. It is thus very easy to provide a comprehensive combination of competitive, challenging therapy games, precise, concentration-enhancing exercises as well as contemplative, stress-reducing applications without much effort.

Testing patients` basic skills
Another novelty is the testing of 6 basic patient skills: Range of Motion, Accuracy, Memory, Reaction, Attention, and Holding tests. When performed regularly, the tests provide a very good overview of the course of therapy, the results of individual sessions and the development of skills. Thanks to detailed graphical representations, the course is also visually depicted at a glance. The evaluation of the test results facilitates the classification of patients in order to select the right modules as well as settings, so that patients can better adapt to VR.

More language options for accessible therapy In addition to the previously offered English and German languages, we have added more language options so that even more patients and therapists can use CUREO®. Italian, French and Dutch are now also available. This allows us to overcome language barriers to make therapy more successful.

Enriched environments for more exploration Especially for patients who have been in a clinical, pathologizing environment for a long time, it is important to bring them into a new setting and let them be stimulated and motivated by so-called Enriched Environments. Therefore, in order to promote exploration and rehabilitation, e.g. after a stroke, we have added new landscapes in our relax module. Thus, patients can now dive into nine fascinating worlds and relax - efficiently with just a few clicks and without much effort.

Innovative hand tracking in several modules We have also expanded the possibilities of hand therapy to support patients whose motor functions of the hands and fingers are impaired, for example, by neurological or musculoskeletal problems. In order to promote their independence again, we have expanded the hand therapy options in our VR system. CUREO® now enables the innovative finger tracking, which is already known from our "finger" module, in further modules.

About CUREO
Consisting of hardware and the pre-installed CE-certified software, CUREO® is immediately applicable and already in use in leading clinics. Modular training units in a VR environment playfully support cognitive and sensorimotor rehabilitation. Especially the upper extremities are addressed by the therapy applications. This makes the therapy suitable for rehabilitation after stroke, for example, or in the case of damage to the central nervous system or musculoskeletal impairments, for example after surgery.
CUREO® motivates patients and can thus promote the success of the therapy. In addition, therapists can care for several patients at the same time - in this way, the resources of clinics and rehabilitation facilities can be used optimally and high-frequency the-rapy can be provided for patients. From the hospital bed in clinical rehabilitation, to outpatient therapy, e.g. in a wheelchair, to aftercare, CUREO® can be used trans-sectorally. Thanks to its mobile use, CUREO® enables new aftercare concepts for patients and a sustainable quality of care.
Unique therapy functions such as mirror therapy can be added at the touch of a button and without great effort. In addition, CUREO® offers sonification - the sounding of movements -, embodiment via an avatar, neuroregulative training and music therapy. Thanks to selective finger tracking without a controller, patients can also train the fine motor skills of their hands and fingers. The distraction provided by VR supports pain reduction.
