More compassionate care exists for Kelli and her son Jack. Velano was borne out of a caring physician’s response to an inquisitive patient’s frustration. In 2012, a dedicated team of experienced healthcare change agents came together to upend the way we draw blood in hospitals.

Through research, planning and human-centered design, the foundation was set for an innovative family of medical technologies. By 2014 the PIVO needle free blood draw device became a reality through clinical collaborations and patient and practitioner input. The FDA cleared PIVO in 2015, opening the door to pilots, evaluations, studies and more.

For Jack, and others who experience endless needle sticks before the age of 10, Velano’s innovations are viewed as “game changers.” Few technologies in healthcare are consistently seen as better for patients, better for practitioners, and better for hospitals.
