Farmasystem - Apparatus for Iontophoresis
Iontophoresis , also called galvanotherapy , is an electrotherapy technique which , through a flow of unidirectional direct current, deals with administering drugs into the body only through the epidermis, in a more effective and profound way. In fact, this method of pharmacological medication allows you to concentrate a large amount of drug in a small surface. To put it simply, this is a kind of " needle-free injection ".
Iontophoresis is particularly suitable for diseases of the periarticular tissues and joints (especially trophic disorders of the limbs, muscular hypotonia and hypotrophy, spastic paralysis and neuralgia).
The iontophoresis device generates the direct current between the skin and the electrode (which does not come into direct contact with the skin: there is always the interposition of a sponge) which, in turn, transforms the solution of the medicinal substances in ions that are introduced into the painful or contracted area . In this way the specific active ingredient of the drug will act, according to its physicochemical characteristics, in that specific area of the body.
The main access points of the ions are the outlets of the sweat glands, the sebaceous ones and the hair orifices.
The device for iontophoresis is indicated for inflammatory pain , post-traumatic pain, for arthrosis, arthritis, rheumatism, muscle contractures of various types, cellulite and for surgical edema.
However, this type of treatment is not suitable for everyone. Some contraindications could arise for pacemaker wearers, for those suffering from epilepsy. Also if you do not recommend the use of an iontophoresis device if you have skin lesions or metal parts present in the joints.
