Cassi - Rotational Core Ultrasound Breast Biopsy Device
From Breast Biopsy
Cassi is a hand-held, self-contained biopsy device that provides highly accurate target tissue sampling while delivering more biopsy tissue in fewer passes. Using ultrasound guidance, the Cassi 19-gauge guide needle is easily maneuvered through breast tissue and positioned precisely through the targeted lesion. Patented Stick-Freeze Technology™ immobilizes the lesion as the 10-gauge or 12-gauge rotating cutting cannula advances into the secured tissue. The result is a large, intact sample of contiguous tissue from the targeted area. Cassi has been a valuable tool for difficult and routine breast biopsies for years. Scion has made several optimizations in the past year since acquiring the product line.

Versatility:
Works across a wide range of lesion types and locations which enables you to obtain samples from challenging lesions.
The Cassi device enables you to biopsy patients with challenging breast lesions such as those in dense breast tissue, broadenomas, lesions located against the chest wall, in the axilla, in lymph nodes, lesions close to breast implants and close to the skin surface. In these more challenging cases, Cassi’s “no forward-throw” feature helps you easily and safely collect samples without impacting tissue and structures beyond the lesion. The low-profile, 19-gauge guide needle allows you to navigate around vessels to reach lesions which may minimize bleeding and tissue trauma and facilitates dense tissue navigation while still producing large 10-gauge or 12-gauge cores.
Accuracy:
Access the targeted lesion with pinpoint precision.
Cassi’s 19-gauge guide needle can be precisely placed in the center of the targeted lesion and confirmed under ultrasound guidance. Real-time ultrasound confirmation of needle placement in the lesion prior to sampling eliminates excision of non-targeted breast tissue. The “no forward-throw” eliminates the risk of pushing a target lesion away during the sampling process.
The Cassi’s patented CO2 driven Stick-Freeze Technology™ immobilizes the targeted tissue by adhering it to the guiding needle while the 10-gauge or 12-gauge rotating cutting cannula obtains large, contiguous cores.
User-friendly:
Streamline practice productivity and improve your patient’s biopsy experience.
The large intact and contiguous cores obtained by the Cassi allow you to achieve concordance with a minimum number of passes, leading to shorter procedure times. The untethered, lightweight design allows the Cassi to be portable and ideal for multiple room use.
Cassi was designed to take into account that patients undergoing a breast biopsy are at a heightened state of sensitivity. In particular, traditional spring loaded guns make a startling and loud snapping sound, which is why they are sometimes referred to as “pop guns”. In contrast, the sound produced by Cassi during biopsy acquisition is dramatically quieter than conventional “pop gun” core needle systems, with the goal of minimizing patient anxiety during this sensitive procedure.
Cost Effective
The untethered, portable, reusable Cassi handle saves set-up time, eliminates the need for valuable square footage to store the device and requires no expensive capital equipment to pay up front or over the life of a lease. This makes Cassi ideal for office or operating room use.
