QRM -Comprehensive Electron Density Phantom for CT Radiotherapy Calibration
The Comprehensive Electron Density Phantom is designed for calibrating the Hounsfield Unit (HU) relative to electron density in CT radiotherapy treatment plans, ensuring optimal dosage for patients. This advanced phantom includes a water-equivalent body and a removable head section, each with 16 slots for interchangeable inserts that mimic various human tissues per ICRU Report 44 and 46 specifications. It accurately reproduces tissue characteristics across different densities, including bones. The device is engineered for high energy applications such as MeV electron, photon, and proton therapies, and is equally useful for kilovolt energy diagnostic imaging like Multi-Energy CT. It comes with a protocol noting physical density, electron density, electron density relative to water, and effective atomic number, with options for additional values. The accuracy rate is within ±5 HU of specified values, making it a reliable tool for precise radiotherapy planning.
- Calibration of radiation oncology treatment plans
- Optimization of the delivered dose to the patient
- Provides realistic tissue simulation and values within the higher density range (bones)
- Further/multiple tissue-equivalent inserts are available upon request
The phantom is an excellent tool for the calibration of Hounsfield Unit (HU) vs. electron density of radiotherapy treatment plans to optimize the dose delivered to the patient (CT/CBCT).
The Comprehensive EDP phantom is ideally suited for the creation of a HU vs the electron density table for treatment planning CT (4DCT). It consists of a water-equivalent body section and a removable/stand-alone head section with in total 16 holes for exchangeable inserts that mimic real human tissue regarding its physical and electron density according to the ICRU Report 44 and 46. Remarkably, the phantom provides realistic tissue also in the higher density range (bone).
The phantom comes with a protocol displaying physical density, electron density, electron density relative to water and effective atomic number (other values are optional).
The phantom is not only suitable for the high energy ranges (MeV electron, photon, and proton therapy systems), but is also a valuable tool for kV-energies in diagnostic imaging (e.g. Multi-Energy CT).
