The NEONATAL TOTAL-T4 Screening ELISA is a competitive ELISA: the T4 thyroxine contained in the test sample and the T4 labeled in known quantity competitively bind to the anti-T4 antibodies covering the microplate. The marked T4 allows the detection by colorimetry and the intensity of the measured absorbance signal is directly proportional to it. The intensity of this signal is therefore inversely proportional to the concentration of T4 contained in the sample.
