Current standard measurements of cardiac output are invasive, expensive, and need to be performed in a cath lab.
Cardiac output is a measurement of the amount of blood pumped by the heart through the cardiovascular system.
Low cardiac output can indicate cardiogenic shock, heart failure, a need for mechanical support (heart pump), or other conditions.
High cardiac output can indicate sepsis or a widespread systemic infection, which causes about 1 in 5 deaths globally.
