Innovation in laboratory medicine, particularly pathology, hasn’t evolved much in the past 100 years. We are changing that by building automated tools to increase productivity in the lab, as well as provide a strong foundation for assistive downstream technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. Real-time data from our device provides immediate and direct access to clinicians - this has never been seen before. Through our partnership with several leading academic medical center laboratories, we have created a product from the “inside of healthcare, out”, with clinical workflow being of paramount importance. We are here to improve patient outcomes, decrease the cost-of-care, and provide access for all patients.

The Hand

The mechanical functionality and hardware throughout the SectionStar automated system uses precision tolerances and delicate systems to move things around, replicating the human histotechnologist in the laboratory

The Eye
The human eye is made up of over 2M working parts and can differentiate over 10M different colors - a tall order for SectionStar to compare to. The vision system in our device is paramount to ensure that we are cutting a full cross-section of tissue. Using our proprietary technology, this previously manual process will now ensure no human error.

The Brain
The human brain controls our ability to think, talk, see, feel, hear and make decisions. This decision-making process is of utmost importance for SectionStar to replicate. In order to mimic a human, our device software communicates with each subsystem in real-time, while also providing bi-directional flow of information between the provider and the EHR.

SectionStar will enable labs to standardize operations. Automating histology will increase lab efficiency (higher throughput), reduce overhead, enable downstream funcationality and solve lab labor shortage

SLIDE QUALITY
Standardization of slides will enable digital pathology by reducing image noise. Further, SectionStar does not use a "water bath", this will eliminate contamination & create a gold standard of consistency

IMPACT
Better digital imaging enables telepathology, allows for faster biopsy turnaround time (patient experience benefits), eliminates human error & reduces patient harm
