The Best in KLAS Plum 360 infusion system earned the highest rating for pump performance four years in a row (2021 Smart Pumps - EMR-Integrated; 2018, 2019, 2020 Smart Pumps) and gives you automatic safety with unmatched efficiency and interoperability in one connected IV system.
Make IV Safety Automatic
With 48% of secondary infusions being shown to have at least one setup error,1 it's easy to see why improving secondary delivery safety is of primary importance.
Deliver secondaries with confidence by reducing opportunities for errorThe unique delivery system of the Plum 360 draws medication directly from the secondary container, eliminating the risk for common secondary setup errors. With a direct connection, there's no need to adjust IV container head height to assure your secondary infusions are delivered properly. This eliminates the risk of pressure differential errors, which are the most common secondary setup errors.1 In an environment where your infusion pumps are integrated with your EHR, this means that not only can you trust that your infusions are being delivered accurately and on time, but you can trust that the data recorded is actually correct.
With the Plum 360's unique cassette technology, you can deliver two compatible medications at independent rates through a single line, letting you deliver the secondary medication without pausing the primary.
The PlumSet™ cassette also provides the flexibility to administer from either a syringe or a solution container through a direct secondary connection.
Smarter and Safer Alarm Management
Alarm fatigue is a well-recognized side effect of excessive and often false alarms from medical devices in a busy hospital setting.2,3 We can help reduce the noise and annoyance of nuisance IV pump alarms while enabling more efficient delivery of care.
The Plum cassette can trap up to 1 mL of air before alarming, reducing alarms and alarm fatigue. If an air-in-line alarm does occur, air can be easily removed with automated backpriming without disconnecting from the patient. This helps to minimize wasted medication and reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infection.
When smart IV pumps detect a distal occlusion, delivery stops immediately and an alarm sounds. Ordinarily, this would require a nurse to return to the patient's bedside and resolve the alarm—even if the occlusion was caused by a patient bending their arm.
With the Distal Occlusion Auto Restart (DOAR) feature, the Plum 360 can automatically restart if the occlusion clears within 60 seconds. There’s no need for the nurse to re-enter the patient room and manually restart the infusion, saving time and increasing workflow efficiency.
The Plum 360 and ICU Medical MedNet™ with IV-EHR interoperability work together with leading alarm management platforms to provide intelligent alarm forwarding that helps you reduce noise and enhance nursing efficiency. By sharing priority messages in meaningful ways, patients are triaged quickly and nurses have confidence that they will become aware of significant issues in time to intervene appropriately.
Alarm forwarding solutions can be configured to send an actionable notification to nursing stations and mobile devices, with the opportunity to cascade messages when the original recipient is unable to respond.
Smarter and Safer Drug Library
Smarter and safer drug library
The “Guidelines for Optimizing Safe Implementation and Use of Smart Infusion Pumps” issued by The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) in February 20204 urges
hospitals to:
- Choose smart infusion pumps that default directly to programming in Dose Error Reduction Software (DERS), and
- Establish organizational expectations for the use of DERS that maximizes compliance to 95% or higher for medication administration.
The Plum 360 with ICU Medical MedNet software meets both of these guidelines with programming that defaults to DERS and average compliance rates of 98%.
With ICU Medical MedNet IV safety software, your programming sequence automatically starts in the drug library, providing average compliance rates of 98%

Smarter and Safer IV-EHR Interoperability
With over a decade of smart IV-EHR interoperability experience, we can reduce opportunities for human error, minimize variability in your infusion setup, and provide valuable transparency to help you make better informed decisions about the care of your patients.
As many as 75%5 of pump programming errors can be eliminated with safety software and IV-EHR interoperability, but interoperability solutions vary. ISMP guidelines note that organizational expectations for auto programming should be 95% or greater for medications and IV fluids. This requires being able to program nearly all types of infusions, including primary, secondary, rate changes, and titrations. Our interoperability solution lets you do just that, and more.
By removing manual steps and standardizing your infusion programming, you can save time while increasing your confidence in the care being delivered.
Because the Plum 360 draws medication directly from the fluid containers, you can be confident that your infusion data is accurate and not documenting an otherwise common setup error.
With an automated feed of accurate infusion data that you can trust, you can now look at variations and know it's a variation based on what is happening with the patient rather than an issue with charting, infusion setup, or human error.
With automated, accurate capture of infusion start and stop times, you can minimize lost reimbursement revenues and maximize revenue capture.
ICU Medical's IV-EHR interoperability allowed one community hospital to increase IV reimbursement by $1.15 million.6ICU Medical takes the issue of cybersecurity very seriously. We are constantly vigilant in adhering to the latest industry standards and view cybersecurity as an ongoing process of continuous improvement, not a static event. With more than a decade of experience integrating infusion pumps and IV safety software onto hospital networks, we have seen a lot, learned a lot, and look forward to continuing to build our expertise to provide our customers with access to the highest level of device and software cybersecurity.
Our commitment and leadership are reflected in the Plum 360 being the first medical device to achieve UL 2900-1 and UL 2900-2-1 certification—the cybersecurity standard recognized by the FDA, NIST, and several global agencies.
