síbiotech - Natural Bioactive Compounds for Omega Enrichment
Síbiotech is advancing the field of bioactive compounds by focusing on the extraction of valuable lipids from natural sources such as sea buckthorn, microalgae, and flaxseed. Their sea buckthorn seed lipid extract is notable for its high content of unsaturated fatty acids, including Omega-3, 6, and 9, with particular emphasis on polyunsaturated linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids, as well as monounsaturated oleic acid. Furthermore, it contains beneficial plant sterols and tocopherols. Their pulp extract emphasizes Omega-7 fatty acids and carotenoids, alongside sterols like beta-sitosterol. The innovation extends to microalgae, which are cultivated in photobioreactors to produce Omega-3 rich extracts as healthier alternatives to fish oils. Additionally, their flaxseed extract is marked by a high concentration of alpha-linolenic acid, and there's ongoing research on enhancing this through co-extraction with birch bark for cardiovascular health benefits. Such developments highlight their commitment to producing bioactive compounds that offer health benefits.
síbiotech specialises in extracting natural bioactive compounds using innovative and sustainable technology - supercritical fluid extraction with carbon dioxide (CO2). Here are some of our highly esteemed bioactive compounds obtained through supercritical CO2 technology.
Sea Buckthorn Seed Lipid Extract
This extract contains up to 90% unsaturated fatty acids (Omega-3, 6, 9), with 75% being polyunsaturated fatty acids (linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid) and 15% monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid, the primary component of olive oil). Additionally, sea buckthorn seed lipid extract contains plant sterols, including beta-sitosterol, tocopherols, and other bioactive compounds.
Sea Buckthorn Berry Pulp Lipid Extract
Rich in Omega-7 fatty acids (up to 40g per 100g of extract), this extract also contains approximately 200mg of carotenoids per 100g, with beta-carotene being the most abundant, followed by lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene. Sea buckthorn pulp lipid extract also includes sterols, particularly beta-sitosterol (2mg/1g).
Microalgae Extracts Rich in Omega-3 and Antioxidants
The síbiotech research and development team has initiated research projects and technology implementation, along with experimental development, to create processes for the large-scale propagation of three different microalgae species in photobioreactors. These are intended for large-scale cultivation to obtain Omega-3 fatty acids, providing a healthy alternative to fish oil.
From the microalgae propagated in the photobioreactor, the plan is to derive a combination of Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants for a new and unique product. The developed extract is intended for encapsulation in soft shell capsules, with safety, efficacy, and bioavailability evaluations to be conducted in clinical trials.
Flaxseed (linseed) Lipid Extract
An abundant source of plant-based Omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), our flaxseed lipid extract contains over 60% ALA, followed by linoleic acid (Omega-6) and oleic acid (Omega-9).
Currently, we have embarked on researching the co-extraction process of flaxseed and birch bark to develop a synergistic bioactive compound product containing ALA and betulin. Betulin is a compound found in birch bark with significant health benefits, including the reduction of low-density lipoproteins. This could potentially be an effective combination for promoting cardiovascular health.
