NuCress - Bone and Tissue Regeneration Technology
Today there is no satisfactory solution for major bone injuries caused by accidents, warfare and cancer, especially complex and large segmental bone loss. Our NuCress™ bone scaffold technology has been shown to promote healing of large segmental bone breaks (>2.5 cm) tested in large and small animals (goats, mice) – with no infections, inflammation, rejection or adverse bone response. Our patented technology provides limb saving alternatives for patients who typically require multiple surgeries or amputation where there are large amounts of bone loss. In severe fractures and deficits, bone fillers or cements are used to help bridge the fractured bone and promote healing; however, their contribution to the healing process is limited. Orthopedic appliances may be needed for extra support in early stages of healing.

Products Details
Natural or synthetic bone grafts have drawbacks and limitations — using either an autograft (patient’s own bone via an additional painful procedure) or allografts (cadaveric donor bone); both are complicated procedures that can require long recovery periods. Shortages exist in availability of donor tissue traditionally used in such reconstructions and the size of these grafts is limited.
The components used to construct our devices have received clearance from the FDA for use in other devices or are in process of clearance. In situ, the implant swells to lock into place in the bone defect, eliminating the need for special instruments to secure the graft in place. It does not result in aberrant growth. The scaffold is hydrophilic.
NuCress™ scaffolds in research shows that it is effective and safe and substantially equivalent to other marketplace offerings for the same indications for bone void fillers.
A pipeline of NuCress™ bone fillers is under development to be used beyond extremities; initial data has been generated in lumbar spinal fusion, dental implants and craniomaxillofacial applications.
The NuCress™ design reduces the need for autografts and allografts using a controlled porosity polymeric scaffold embedded with smaller amounts of DMB and HA.
Benefits
Our patented technology bone scaffold technology has shown to promote healing of large segmental bone breaks (>2.5 cm), tested in nearly 500 large test subjects across 8 different species in addition to hundreds of rabbits and mice – with few infections, inflammation, rejection or adverse bone response.
Features
Our NuCress™ scaffold is unique: we can control design, shape and form; it has shelf-life stability and tolerance over a wide range of storage conditions. NuCress™ is not yet FDA cleared and is not available for sale at this time
