Model CAS 88-18-6 -Ortho Tertiary Butyl Phenol (OTBP)
Ortho-tertiary-butyl phenol aka 2 tert butylphenol is a chemical compound with a clear colourless and sometimes pale yellow appearance. It is a viscous liquid with a density of 0.982 at room temperature (approximately 20°C). It is often used as a basic raw material for antioxidants, fragrance compounds and various agrochemicals. Butyl phenol is used as an intermediate for flavours, fragrances, and antioxidant intermediates.
- Ortho Tertiary Butyl Phenol (OTBP) is used as an intermediate to make perfumery ingredients ortho tertiary butyl cyclohexyl acetate (OTBCHA) and 2-tert butyl cyclohexanol (OTBCH)
- Used as a raw material to make synthetic oil-based resins
- OTBP is used as a raw material in the agrochemical industry for some insecticides.
Phenol is reacted with isobutene in the presence of sulfonated polystyrene-poly divinylbenzene ion exchange resin to obtain ortho-tertiary-butyl phenol as the main alkylation product. The reaction of phenols with isobutylene at a particular molar ratio at 95°C results in a product mixture. OTBP compound has been tabletted with 10% graphite and preconditioned by exposing it to 650°C heat in an airstream. Based on phenol conversion, the selectivity for CAS 88-18-6 can be 88%.
Ortho-tertiary-butyl-phenol/2 tert butylphenol is widely used as an antioxidant. This compound was manufactured and evaluated as an intravenous anaesthetic agent. It has applications in a wide variety of industries including- consumer use, flame retardant, perfumery, fuel, lubricants, automotive care, manufacturing oils, plastics, coals and raw materials for various applications (eg: cosmetics, chemical manufacturing, production of chemicals, etc)
OTBP/2 tert butylphenol compound is the starting material for the synthesis of various antioxidants as well as agrochemicals. Cis-2-t-butylcyclohexanol is obtained by the hydrogenation of ortho-tertiary-butyl phenol in the presence of catalysts and is used in the production of fragrance compounds. It is a chemical intermediate for polymerised resins, plasticizers, surface-active agents, perfumes among other products.
Vinati Organics is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of ortho tertiary butyl phenol. OTBP from Vinati is obtained at a purity of 99% by distillation. The compound is formed with relatively high selectivity by a reaction between phenol and isobutene with gamma aluminium trioxide as a catalyst.
Ortho Tertiary Butyl Phenol can be supplied in ISO Tankers or 150 kg galvanized drums
