Skeletal Muscle Biomarker ELISA Kits
ELISA kits for detection of skeletal muscle troponin-C, troponin-I, myoglobin and fatty acid binding protein (FABP) in species including mouse, rat, rabbit, dog, pig, and monkey are available, as are the respective purified skeletal muscle biomarkers. Skeletal muscle troponin-I is considered the biomarker of choice for detection of muscle injury because unlike myoglobin and heart-type FABP it is expressed exclusively in skeletal muscle. We currently manufacture skeletal muscle troponin-I (fast twitch isoform) ELISA kits for mouse, rat, and monkey. Myoglobin and heart-type FABP are useful markers of skeletal muscle injury in the absence of cardiac damage.
Troponin-C is also expressed as skeletal and cardiac muscle isoforms. We recently generated antibodies specific for fast-twitch skeletal muscle troponin-C (Sk-TnC). Using these antibodies we have developed an Sk-TnC specific ELISA that can be used to assess skeletal muscle injury. Because Sk-TnC is highly conserved, our ELISA kit (cat. no. STNC) can be used for measurement of Sk-TnC in many species. Sk-TnC is significantly more stable in serum than skeletal muscle troponin-I. Studies at LDI indicate that it is a better biomarker of skeletal muscle injury.
