Carrageenan-Induced Paw Edema Model

SHARE
The acute inflammatory response is well-known to be characterized by increased vascular permeability, increased blood flow, as well as infiltration of neutrophils and macrophages. Moreover, an edema is often formed due to exudation of fluid and plasma proteins and accumulation of leukocytes at the inflammatory site. To date, several experimental models of paw edema have been described by investigators. As one of the best characterized acute inflammatory model, carrageenan-induced mouse/rat model has been increasingly used to test new anti-inflammatory drugs as well as to study the mechanisms involved in inflammation.
