CHT and CPO - Making the Connection. Naked Prosthetics manufactures durable, custom, functional finger prostheses specifically for partial hand amputation. We are committed to rethinking the approach to prosthetic hand and finger function, and to providing innovative solutions for the partial hand amputee population. We partner with hand therapists and prosthetists who share our goal: to provide solutions that increase function and independent living for partial-hand amputees.
Hand Therapist
Hand therapy is a specialized form of therapeutic work designed to help people who have conditions affecting the hands or upper extremity. The goal is for the patient to safely and successfully return to both activities of daily living and occupational environments. Surgeons and PM&R doctors routinely refer partial hand amputees to a hand therapist to aid in their recovery. A hand therapist is often the primary rehabilitation caregiver for this amputee population.
Naked Prosthetics has a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) on staff and works extensively with hand therapists across the country to get patients into prosthetic care. Although a hand therapist cannot fit our devices, they are excellent referral sources for P&O providers and can add great value to the rehabilitation process after prosthetic fitting. We encourage our P&O partners to develop relationships with their local hand therapy teams.

Prosthetist
Prosthetists are skilled in determining appropriate prosthetic intervention in patients with missing limbs. Given the complexity of most partial hand amputations, the prosthetist will rely on their skill and experience to recommend the most appropriate course of action concerning prosthetic devices as well as set realistic expectations for the patient. The prosthetist specializes in providing fit and function, while addressing sensitivity, patient goals, and capabilities. Overall, it is the prosthetist who is responsible for a successful connection between a patient and technology – be it physical, psychological, or therapeutic.
When evaluating patient candidacy, the prosthetist is encouraged to capture photos and videos and to contact Naked Prosthetics to assist in assessment and device recommendation. Our clinical services group is skilled in providing in-depth information on the capabilities of the prostheses so that the patient’s rehabilitation team can make the best decision regarding intervention. Additionally, demonstration devices can be loaned to the practitioner to evaluate device appropriateness with each patient.
Working Together
We have found that the most successful rehabilitation teams are interdisciplinary. Patients benefit greatly when hand therapists and prosthetists work together to provide the best possible outcomes. Naked Prosthetics is proud to help make these connections.
