DEGRAPOL
It is an innovative polymer, belonging to the polyurethane family, biocompatible and biodegradable . The two properties make Degrapol a precious resource for the construction of implantable scaffolds intended for the repair or replacement of damaged tissues.
It was born in the laboratories of the Zurich Polytechnic (ETH Zürich). It is then synthesized in the ab medica laboratories: by modifying its formulation it is possible to modulate the mechanical properties and control the degradation rate of the final product.
Thanks to its hydrophilic nature and the ability to degrade without altering the pH of the implantation site, Degrapol integrates well with and interacts with biological tissues . The physical and mechanical properties make it similar to many types of cell tissues, muscles, heart valves, blood vessels. Its versatility makes it easily workable to create complex structures.
A research project on heart valves and small arteries is currently underway in collaboration with the Chris Barnard Department of Cardiac Surgery of the University of Cape Town.
Collaborations
