Easy integration with other behavioral data
UltraVox XT analyzes sound, including ultrasonic vocalizations made by rodents. You can select calls visually in a spectrogram and categorize similar calls based on frequency, amplitude, duration, and time gaps. Easy export to EthoVision XT and The Observer XT allows you to combine the acoustical events with other behavioral data.
Who uses it?
Identifying ultrasonic vocalizations in rodents is useful in studies on social behavior (e.g. autism related) and anxiety or pain studies, such as those in drug development and safety studies. Besides studying the number and durations of the calls, researchers use spectrograms to identify other characteristics of calls.

Benefits
- UltraVox XT analyzes sound, including ultrasonic vocalizations made by rodents
You can select calls visually in a spectrogram and categorize similar calls based on frequency, amplitude, duration, and time gaps. Easy export to EthoVision XT and The Observer XT allows you to combine the acoustical events with other behavioral data.
- Easy and affordable system
UltraVox XT is a compact, easy-to-use, and affordable solution.
- Record full spectrum sound
Record full spectrum sound in up to 4 arenas at the same time by connecting 4 microphones to the system (NOTE: requires 4 USB3 ports).
- Capture different types of calls
Capture different types of calls that lie far apart in the spectrum (e.g. 20 kHz and 50 kHz) in a single setup with 1 microphone.
- Easy integration
Easy integration with other behavioral data.
- Real-time waveform and spectrogram
You get live, real-time feedback from your recordings. This feedback is in both waveform and spectrogram form, so you can see, in detail, ‘what the sound looks like’.
- Easy call selection
Easily find the calls you are interested in: select the criteria for amplitude, frequency, duration, and time gaps by filling in these numbers or selecting the type of call from the spectrogram. UltraVox XT will find all calls fitting those criteria automatically.
- Easy definition and labeling of calls
You can assign user-defined labels (such as flat, chevron, upward, short) for each call, to be used in analysis and export.
- Compact setup
UltraVox XT works with a compact, plug-and-play USB ultrasound microphone that captures the full acoustic spectrum and is sufficient for one testing arena. You can connect up to four microphones to one UltraVox XT setup. This compact setup makes UltraVox XT easy to work with and creates a very cost-efficient solution.
- Works live and off-line
Besides live recording for analysis, you can also import audio in form of WAV-files. These are analyzed the same way as live sound.
- Export
Export WAV-files for future use or use in other applications.
- Create a report
Create a report (pdf-file) with a copy of the data plots, the spectrogram of the detected calls with their statistics.
- Copy spectrogram
The spectrogram will be copied to the clipboard for inclusion in a report or a presentation.
