Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever: Reducing an Emerging Health Threat in Tanzania - Video

SHARE

Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is a tick-borne virus for which there is no vaccine. It is contracted via tick bites or exposure to tick-infected wild and domestic animals. Fatality rates can reach 30-50% following infection. The project aims to determine the seroprevalence of CCHF virus (CCHFV) in wild animals (hares and rodents), domestic species (cattle), and people at the highest-risk for CCHFV infection in northern Tanzania using a One Health framework. The project is ongoing and is conducted in collaboration with Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute, Tanzania Veterinary Laboratory Agency, University of Glasgow, Global Animal Health Tanzania, and Washington State University and other partners.
