TAKAGI SMTube, Dry Eye Testing in 5 seconds - Video
Dry Eye Testing in 5 seconds, New Non-invasive Method Highly Recommended by Professionals
SM Tube Use Instructions
Watch this short video to understand how to correctly use the SM tube strips.
There is no need for anaesthetic eye drops, and it can be performed without a slit lamp by nurses and healthcare assistants; or with a slit lamp by an ophthalmologist or optometrist. In both cases the application method is the same.
Dr Kazio Tsubota's Recommendation
In this video the SM Tube is introduced by Dr. Kazuo Tsubota from Keio University, a highly experienced doctor and professor, respected worldwide within ophthalmology. He explains the importance of understanding ‘tear stability' and ‘subjective symptoms' in making an accurate diagnosis, based on a recently updated study. He recommends the use of SM Tube for daily clinical practices to quickly establish tear volume levels.
SM Tube allows evaluation of the tear volume in just 5 seconds!
It's safe, accurate and non-invasive, highly recommended for daily practices, this new method is improved in accuracy and duration. The old Schirmer testing method is time consuming, invasive and provides false positive results due to over stimulation of the tears. During the Schirmer test, the paper is immersed into the lower eyelid for 5 minutes, a long duration for a foreign object to be placed into the eye, which stimulates more tears and therefore provides an inaccurate result. SM Tube is a disposable testing method which maximises your workload and offers a comfortable, non-invasive diagnosis for the patient.
Strip Meniscometry Definition
Strip Meniscometry is a term of a methodology for the tear volume evaluation, used in the diagnosis of dry eye disease. The material and structure of the strip are designed with careful consideration for ocular safety. Should the tip of the strip touch the cornea or conjunctiva no damage will occur to the patient's eye.
SM Tube is a thin strip with a central ditch filled with the absorber. The scale is printed on both sides of the absorber to measure the tear meniscus volume. Each SM Tube is packaged individually in a sterile pouch.
