InfectoGnostics Research Campus Jena
Infectognostics – Research Campus for Innovative Infection Diagnostics and Infection Research. The InfectoGnostics Research Campus Jena is a public-private partnership breaking new ground in the diagnosis of infections. More than 30 partners from science, medicine and industry are jointly developing novel solutions for fast and cost-effective on-site diagnostics of infectious diseases. At the research campus, innovative photonic and molecular biological methods are developed and combined to reliably detect infectious agents (especially viruses, bacteria and fungi) and antibiotic resistance and to better understand the host response (e.g. in sepsis). In a triad of technology, application and production, laboratory and rapid tests are thus created for use in human and veterinary medicine and for food safety.
This unique cooperation between public and private partners on an equal footing will break down barriers to the establishment of new diagnostics: Promising solutions from basic research are thus brought more quickly into the diagnostic routine in the form of market-ready products and thus to users and patients.
Public-private Partnership for Innovation
The InfectoGnostics research campus has become established as one of nine initiatives within the funding scheme 'Research campus - Public-private Partnership for Innovation' of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). This initiative is a tool in the German Federal Government’s 'Hightech Strategy'.
With the help of this public-private partnership, we will gain central importance as innovation hub for diagnostics of infections in Europe that is characterised by excellent research and training and the interaction of basic research, application and technology transfer into real products and services - to reach doctors and patients.
