Electromagnetics is a key technology used in the exceptional NDI 3D measurement systems Aurora and 3D Guidance. All the Aurora value-creation stages take place at our Radolfzell location. 3D Guidance is developed and produced globally in close cooperation between all our locations.



Aurora - Electromagnetic (EM) Tracking System

The Aurora® electromagnetic (EM) tracking system provides real-time unobstructed tracking of miniaturized sensors embedded into surgical tools, probes, needles, guidewires, and catheters. The position and orientation of each sensor is tracked in five or six degrees of freedom (5DOF / 6DOF), both inside and outside the body. No line of sight is needed to maintain sub-millimetre, sub-degree tracking. A sensor can even be placed at the tip of a flexible instrument, extending the benefits of 3D localization and guidance to countless new medical procedures. The Aurora will simultaneously track up to sixteen (16) 5DOF or eight (8) 6DOF tools within an EM-generated tracking volume. Different Field Generators (FG) provide optimal tracking volumes for a variety of applications. The result is highly accurate and reliable EM tracking required by the most precise image-guided surgery and interventional applications in medicine.

Optical Measurement Systems

Polaris Vega XT - Optical 3D Measurement System

Our most advanced optical tracker delivers volumetric accuracy to 0.12 mm RMS with minimal noise, latency of just 6 milliseconds, and a frame rate as high as 250 Hz, for measurement data that is capable of real-time integration into robot-assisted surgery systems. Tight data synchronization and Ethernet connectivity add to best-in-class measurement performance.

Polaris Vega ST - Optical 3D Measurement System

Our standard optical tracker delivers exceptional measurement accuracy and reliability – hallmarks of our entire Polaris line. Volumetric accuracy to 0.12 mm RMS is achieved over a large measurement volume, with tracking data streamed via Ethernet. An optional Extended Pyramid Volume and Positioning Laser augment flexibility and control.

Polaris Vega VT - Optical 3D Measurement System

This industry-first optical tracker combines HD video and IR tracking to capture a live or recorded view of tracked tools within the measurement volume. Video data and IR tracking data are aligned in real time to a common frame of reference. Different camera resolutions and settings maximize the capture of high-contrast images.
