Description:α-Arbutin (4-Hydroxyphenyl α-D-glucopyranoside) is a tyrosinase inhibitor, which is used as an effective skin whiteners. α-Arbutin is promising for research of various diseases such as hyperpigmentation disorders, types of cancers, central nervous system disorders, osteoporosis, diabetes.
In Vitro:α-Arbutin (0.5-2 mM, 1-10 days) significantly inhibits melanin synthesis at noncytotoxic concentrations and reduces cellular tyrosinase activity in HMV-II cells[3]. α-Arbutin (125 and 250 mg/tissue, 13 days) decreases melanin synthesis without affecting cell viability in the three-dimensional cultured skin model[3].
