SYNDROME (FLHS):
To test whether there is fatty liver diseases present in a flock which needs treatment
WHEN TO USE THE FATTY LIVER TEST:
When there is suspicion of fatty liver disease in a flock
HOW TO USE THE FATTY LIVER TEST:
To perform the test, you need to select some live chickens which are suspected to have FLHS. Kill those chickens in a humane way and perform a post-mortem examination immediately after death. Use the color combination chart to check the color of the liver.
HOW TO INTERPRET THE RESULTS OF THE FATTY LIVER TEST:
Use the color combination chart to check the color of the liver.
Possible outcomes can be:
- no treatment required
- testing required
- treatment required
Should the test indicates “no treatment required”, it is necessary to look for other causes of disease. in the chickens. If it shows “testing required”, you might need to check the triglyceride values in the blood for FLHS, by sending the sample to a validated laboratory (if available). When it says “treatment required”, you need to treat the chickens against Fatty liver disease.
ACTION:
Start giving Heparol Plus in the drinking water and adjust the ration using a nutritionist.
Check for mycotoxins in the feed and prevent them using Kepro Mycostick.
In case of heat stress, use Antistress forte to overcome/prevent negative effects of heat stress.
EVALUATION OF TREATMENT:
After 2 weeks of treatment, select again some live chickens, kill them in a humane way and perform post-mortem immediately after death. Use the color combination chart to check the color of the liver. The outcome should have shifted from treatment required to no treatment required.
