Micropore - Membrane Emulsification Equipment
Double emulsions are used in a range of industries, most usually Pharmaceuticals, Food and Cosmetics, to protect or isolate sensitive ingredients. Micropore’s membrane emulsification equipment uses gentle, low-shear methods to create droplets, exposing them to just enough shear to remove them from the membrane when they are formed. This is in contrast to traditional homogenisation methods, which may draw particles into the high-shear area repeatedly, breaking droplets down and releasing the contents of the primary emulsion.
The narrow particle size distribution gives the double emulsion more predictable properties – the release characteristics of the droplets and distribution of the protected ingredients will be much more reliable than with standard techniques.
With 316 stainless-steel and PTFE production, our crossflow units are perfect for sterile, cGMP pharma or food production facilities. The membrane’s robust, stainless-steel production also allows for easy cleaning and sterilisation.
The equipment is suitable for a vast range of double emulsion and particle technologies, including water-in-oil-in-water solvent evaporation techniques and oil-in-water-in-oil hydrogel techniques. Have a look at our library of academic papers to find out more. Micropore’s technology follows a proven route to scale-up, from bench-top testing, to pilot-scale, up to multi-ton per day production, simply and effectively.
